## [2026-08-02] ingest | Whillas–McLeod history spreadsheet (Rev 4), 1860s–1970s

Ingested 12 decade CSV sheets from `source/` (the family history spreadsheet, "Whillas–Mcleod history from … Rev 4"), covering 1860–1979. Each sheet is a years × months matrix of dated events plus footnotes.

**Created:**

- **12 timeline pages** — one per decade, [1860s](/timeline/1860s) through [1970s](/timeline/1970s).

- **39 people pages** — the full Whillas and McLeod/Gunn lines from the 1846-born [John Foggo Whillas](/people/john-foggo-whillas-b1846) down to the 14 children of [Dick](/people/richard-charles-whillas-b1920) and [Cath](/people/catherine-mcleod-whillas-b1920).

- **19 place pages** — Scotland/Ireland origins, South Australian towns and lighthouses, and the family's Victorian and WA homes.

- **9 event pages** — emigrations, marriages, [Norman MacLeod's WW1 service](/events/norman-macleod-ww1-service), and the [1970 Hopetoun truck accident](/events/hopetoun-truck-accident-1970).

- **3 document pages** + index, including a scan of the [Catherine Gunn death certificate (1950)](/documents/catherine-gunn-death-certificate-1950).

**Notes / open questions carried from the source:**

- Cath's birth year is recorded as 1921 on her certificate but appears as 1920 in some family records.

- Norman MacLeod's post-1936 lighthouse postings (Althorpe Island, Cape du Couedic) rest on Cath's recollection; the SA Archives have no record after Cape Northumberland.

- Several "when was the move to …?" questions (Brae, Sth Purrumbete, Invergordon, Fremantle) remain open in the source.

- Timeline is organised by decade (matching the source sheets). Individual year pages (e.g. `timeline/1963.md`) can be split out later as content grows.

- The bulk photo archive in `source/Mcleod, Whillas family/` has **not** yet been catalogued — see [photos index](/photos/index).

- Created [open-questions.md](/open-questions), collating every unresolved question/gap flagged in the source (family moves, [Norman's](/people/norman-macleod-b1880) records, missing certificates, unidentified relatives, etc.), each linked to its relevant page. Linked from [home](/home) and the [index](/index).

- Updated `CLAUDE.md` to document the **by-decade** timeline convention (`timeline/1960s.md`) in place of the original per-year example, with a note that year pages can be split out as coverage grows.

Ingested the oral-history interview conducted by Erika Whillas.
