Life
Richard completed a B.Eng degree at the University of Melbourne in November 1968. In January 1969 he and his wife Irine moved to Sydney, where he began work at the Commonwealth Department of Works and, in March 1969, a part-time M.Eng.Sci degree at UNSW. From August 1969 he worked as a structural engineer with Wargon Chapman & Assoc; a major project was Centrepoint Tower.
Irine commenced a Fashion Design course at East Sydney Tech in February 1970. In November 1973 the couple left Sydney for overseas, starting with a month in Bali.
