# Geraldton, Western Australia

A coastal town in Western Australia; the site of the MacLeod brothers' failed farming venture.

## Connection to the family

- In the early 1900s [Norman MacLeod](/people/norman-macleod-b1880), with his brother [Neil](/people/neil-mcleod-b1884), took up land near Geraldton under the WA Homestead Act of 1893 (65 ha free if lived on for 7 years). The venture lasted only a few years, reportedly failing due to drought, and Norman returned to the UK.
