- **26 Jul 1906** — [Charles Johnston Whillas](/people/charles-johnston-whillas-b1872) marries [Charlotte Sloggett](/people/charlotte-sloggett-whillas-b1879) in North Adelaide. They have 5 children, including Dick and twin girls who die young. See [marriage event](/events/marriage-charles-whillas-to-charlotte-sloggett-1906).
- **12 Oct 1909** — [John Henry (JH/Jack) Whillas](/people/john-henry-whillas-b1909), Dick's older brother, born at Finsbury Park, SA. No birth certificate.

## Notes & uncertainties

- Based on snippets from Cath, in the early 1900s [Norman MacLeod](/people/norman-macleod-b1880), with a brother, took up land near [Geraldton, WA](/places/geraldton-western-australia) under the WA Homestead Act of 1893 (65 ha free if lived on for 7 years). This didn't work out and he returned to the UK, working his way on a sailing ship (via Rio de Janeiro). He also gained an electrician qualification at the Royal Technical College in [Glasgow](/places/glasgow-scotland) around this time.
- Charles & Lotte's children (all born in Adelaide): (1) [John Henry](/people/john-henry-whillas-b1909) b. 12 Oct 1909; (2) [Daisy](/people/daisy-whillas-b1912) (twin) b. 18 May 1912, d. 30 May 1912; (3) [Marjorie](/people/marjorie-whillas-b1912) (twin) b. 18 May 1912, d. ~2.5 years later of diphtheria; (4) [Frances Louise](/people/frances-louise-whillas-b1915) b. 1 Jul 1915; (5) [Richard Charles (Dick)](/people/richard-charles-whillas-b1920) b. 31 Jul 1920.
