The wedding took place during Dick's RAAF service in WW2, shortly after his promotion to Warrant Officer. The couple's eldest child, [Nan](/people/catherine-normandy-whillas-b1939), had been born in 1939; after the marriage her birth certificate was rewritten/"legitimised". Together Dick and Cath had 14 children (see [Dick's page](/people/richard-charles-whillas-b1920)).
